Blow your own damn mind

Every now and again I post two photos from a "photoshoot" I did in 2014. I get a lot of compliments and shock from them. This Thursday I posted one as a throwback Thursday photo. After being reposted by one of my favorite pages @lifeaccordingtoher I wanted to give the back story of why I took the photos, because The Kouture Blog is all about inspiring and encouraging, right?

In 2014 I had recently got out of a 10 year relationship for matters that broke my heart honestly. Upon the ending of that relationship, after a week of crying and eating ice cream of course, I decided it was time to get back to me. I took a few weeks to focus ALL of my energy on myself. My mental, my physical, everything. I got into the best shape I had ever been in, colored my hair, and was feeling the best I had felt in years. It was then that I vowed to always make myself a priority, inside or outside of a relationship. One of my little brothers, DeArejon aka Keeb aka ShootInSilence asked me if he could shoot me for his portfolio, of course I agreed because I support his talent 100%. When he asked me what concept I wanted to go with I took a minute to think about it. Now, amongst my friends I have never been considered the "sexy" one, I was newly single, feeling my best, and back to being the woman I always wanted to be. Not to mention I had a new boy toy in my life (my now oh so fine boyfriend). After a day or two I told him I wanted to do something sexy and simplistic. Something that screamed power, respect, and confidence. So, that's what we did.

These photos are not about attention or showing off. These photos are about confidence, being comfortable in my own skin and accepting my body, maintaining my independence, being confident with my sexuality, and 100% owning who I am and what I stand for. That is also the point of my blog, to inspire other women to do the same through my own photography, style and journalism. Because at the end of the day, sometimes it's necessary to blow your own damn mind!
