Wild Thang

This summer I've gotten complimented and questioned on my hair more than ever. I always feel guilty because really I don't do anything special to it during summer. My routine is as fuss free as I can make it. Let me prefeace everything by saying my hair didn't always look this way. I took years of patience and nursing my hair back to health. Keep in mind Healthy hair is beautiful hair. For those wondering, here's my routine.

From May-September or October depending on when the weather cools down I try my best not to straighten my hair. Not only is it too hot but I like to give my hair a break from heat for a few months during the year. I rotate between a few styles. Wash and go's (although there is no such thing) and braid outs are my favorites. When I get bored I MIGHT do a rod set. Today I am going to share my wash and go and braid out routine. If you just want a list of the products I like to use go back and read my post "Preparation is Key."

Wash and Go

Wash and Go

For a "wash and go" I like to wash my hair with Neutrogena Triple Moisture Cream Lather Shampoo. After that I deep condition for AT LEAST an hour with Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask (I detangle my hair during this step)  then I rinse it out. Once I am done deep conditioning (which is a VERY important step) I apply a leave in conditioner.......you guessed it Neutrogena Triple Moisture Silk Touch Leave-In Cream. I like the products from this line so much because they  leave my hair soft, moisturized and manageable. Moisture is very important to me because my hair is colored blonde. Because I take good care of my hair I have not had an issue with having such a harsh hair color. After applying my leave in I like to section my hair into 4-6 sections and apply African Pride Shea Butter Formula Miracle Bouncy Curls Pudding to each section finger combing it in. After that I either finger comb a little oil of some sort into each section or finger comb some Garnier Fructis Curl Stretch Pudding. There you have it! After that I let my hair air dry (D0 NOT touch your hair during the drying process). Once my hair is 85%-90% dry I shake my head all around and fluff and scrunch my hair until I have my desired style and volume.

Braid Out.....Hello wind!

Braid Out.....Hello wind!

As for my braid out....I go through the same wash and condition routine. I apply my products in the same manner also. After that I simply plait my hair in a few plaits, rod the ends and let my hair dry completely (you may sit under a hair dryer if desired). You may also braid your hair to the scalp but I can't braid my own hair like that so I just plait it; I actually prefer braids to the scalp. Once my hair is completely dry I use a little oil, take down my plaits and pull them apart until I have my desired volume.

THAT'S IT! My wash and go and braid out routine. If anyone has products they recommend or has any questions leave them in the comments below. Lets start some dialogue.....and if you have instagram, natural hair and read the blog post a pic of your hair in your favorite natural style with the hashtag #KoutureHair so I can feature some readers on the blog :-) I had to learn my hair through trial and error. Don't be afraid to try new products and styles, trust me, you WILL find what works for and on you ;-)
